Life post-dutch course

Not too much exciting has happened recently. I've been busy getting things ready for Christmas and meeting up with friends before we all go away for the holidays.

Last Saturday some friends and I had a surprise birthday party for our friend Lauren. Her boyfriend, Bart, organized it. Melanie baked the cake, Emma hosted it, and I organized games! We played a game called "Living Statue" where two teams had to wrap up a team member to look like a statue using plastic wrap, toilet paper, and tin foil! It was quite funny!

Lauren's surprised!

My husband, the warrior version of the Statue of Liberty

Edgar, complete with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit.

Yesterday Rosie and I tried to make some Dutch cookies- Speculaas and Pepernoten. The speculaas came out ok, not great, but at least they were edible and tasted ok! But the pepernoten, oh, the pepernoten! Haha! They were a little bit weird when we took them out of the oven, and kinda soft instead of being crunchy like they're supposed to be. So we put them back in the oven, and when we took them out they were hard as a rock! They were totally inedible! I tried to find the recipes online, and they were all a little different, so perhaps using a different recipe would yield better results. On the other hand, perhaps I should just stick to American cookies!! :)

I did get an email from the American School of the Hague, saying that they've passed along my resume to the middle school principle. I'm glad they acknowledged that they know I exist! So now I'm just waiting to hear back if I get an interview. I've been thinking that they may wait a while to see if they get more responses before they interview everyone, so I might be waiting a little while to hear back from them. But we'll see!

This weekend Rene and I are going to his parents house to celebrate Christmas with them since we will be in America on the 25th. I'm excited for all the fun that's coming up ahead, and especially for finally getting to go visit my parents after four months!

If I don't get a chance to write again before Christmas, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous New Year!! :)
