My first long bicycle trip!

On Saturday René and I cycled out to Katwijk, a town on the coast of Holland. We forgot to time the trip (both ways!), but we think it took us about 30-40 minutes to get there. The ride wasn't as long as I thought it was going to be, and as we neared Katwijk, we cycled down a long street with big houses and lots of trees lining it- it reminded me of being in Connecticut! The city center is right by the water- the pedestrian shopping area looked just like any other in Holland, but the shops and restaurants along the water look like a beach town (and that's just what Katwijk is). We would have taken some nice photos or the beach and the sea and the kites that people were flying, but it was TOO COLD!! The wind was blowing fiercely and it was so grey and dreary that it wasn't that nice to be out there. But the trip itself was nice (although we discovered that the same stores that we have in Leiden are much bigger and have much better stuff there!), we ate out together for one of the first times in Leiden at a Thai restaurant when we got back home. It was a nice day out!
