Life has just been trukkin' along this past week or so. Last weekend we took it easy since I've been feeling a bit overworked with my class and my wifely duties :)
We went to Ikea Saturday afternoon and FINALLY made a decision about what curtains to buy. My task for either today or Friday is to finish washing them all and hem them to the appropriate lengths.
But I've been struggling to do anything else but study for my Dutch class. If I'm really diligent, I can get my homework done and do something else like go grocery shopping before I start cooking dinner. Then after dinner Rene and I spend the good part of the evening going over the lesson and all the vocabulary I have to memorize for the class the following day. It's exhausting, and I feel bad that Rene too must spend all his time working on my Dutch.
But it's all worth it! I'm finding that the words that I hear other people say, like in the shops, aren't just a blur of jumbled sound anymore! Some people are easier to understand than others, but I'm finding that more and more can I get away with not ever having to use English when I'm out running errands. Writing is still so much easier than speaking because when I speak I am thinking so much about what words I need to use that I forget what I've already said, and then I use the wrong form of the verb or stick it in the wrong place. But I'm getting less stressed out when I try to speak, and that means I'm practicing more and more!
This weekend we're going to Rene's parents' for their wedding anniversary and my mother-in-law's birthday. It will be interesting to see if I can speak more with Rene's family now that I have a month of Dutch lessons under my belt! I'll let you all know if it is brilliant success or a dismal failure!
