Our friend Melanie's birthday was a couple weeks ago and she had a costume party: cow girls and farmers (a kinda 'western' theme). It was just for girls since all the girls she knows fills up her whole living room so there's no room for boys. But my boy got to come along too because her husband Edgar asked Rene if he could help him be a "servant" for the night so Melanie wouldn't have to work all night being hostess.
Since I don't have any clothes that say "cow girl" or "farmer," I went instead as a country western singer (and wore the most makeup I've worn since the wedding!).
Rene, on the other hand, went early with Edgar to a costume rental shop, where they picked out very, um, interesting costumes to surprise Melanie. You can see for yourself why I pretended not to know Rene for the evening . . .
And we played "koekhappen," where you have to eat the piece of spice cake off your string as quickly as possible!
