(not so) New (anymore) job!

I have been very derelict in my writing duties to tell you all how things are going here in the Netherlands. I  mentioned back in December that I got a new job starting in January at the American School of the Hague. I'm happy to report that things are going really well and I am really enjoying it.

Working with 8 and 9 year olds is of course very different from middle schoolers, but I am enjoying it even more than I had expected. They are so lovable and love you right back, and I really enjoy seeing the same kids every day, getting to build great relationships with them. Rene loves to hear all my funny stories when I come home (the most recent involving a little boy who blurted out that he has a crush on a girl in the class, and among other things asked the nurse at one point if she had anything for a broken heart!)

I'm also really happy with the people I am working with. I assist two 3rd grade teachers, alternating days but flexible to go wherever I'm most needed. However, one teacher, Pat, has a student teacher training with her for several months so I'm not always as needed there. The other teacher, Arlene, is really wonderful and so much fun to work with. She's so sweet and motherly (she has a daughter just a few years younger than me) and we have become fast friends. The only problem is that her husband has just found out that he's being transfered to Singapore in August, so she will be leaving after this year. In addition, Pat is retiring after this year, so sadly I'll be working with all new people next year (I just found out that they're renewing my contract for next year! yippee!) But if they keep me in third grade, there's a possibility that I'd be working with one of the other 3rd grade teachers (there are 4 in total), which would also be very nice.

So all in all things are finally going well in the job area. Finally. At least for now :)
