Rene and I had a fantastic time in Mallorca! I will be writing all about it here, but for now Rene and I are trying to get a lot of important things done before he goes back to work on Monday. Once he's back to work, I will have a chance to sit down and recap all the wonderful adventures we had in Spain (even though I have a lot of things to do myself!)
We got back to Leiden just after midnight Thursday night (Friday morning). Yesterday (Friday), we started off the day with an appointment to get me registered here as a resident of Leiden- the first step before I can get my official residency in order to start working here in Holland.
We spent the rest of the day running errands around the city- most importantly we got me a new cell phone (you can reach me at 011-31-650-994352 for all of you over there in America!). Oh, but really the most important thing is that we bought an oven and a new fridge/freezer! Our apartment only has a range that sits on top of an oven-sized refrigerator. No oven, and no space in the fridge! So we bought them and they should be here on Monday! Yippee!
Today we spent the whole day at Ikea. Yes. The whole day. Well, 6 hours, which felt like the whole day after I got a splitting headache around the 5th hour or so. We didn't buy any furniture, but we made lists of things that are possibilities, and Rene made a 3-D model in google sketchup to try out different combinations of things. So no furniture to lug home, but we bought a set of dishes (since the ones we have now are mismatched and chipped) some bowls, wine glasses, a new shower curtain, and two super-cute pillows to go on the couch that we haven't bought yet, and match the lamp we haven't bought yet either since they were out of stock. So we will probably try to meet up there after Rene gets off work one evening this week.

Haha, but my mom and dad will be proud of us: we packed our lunch, and in the middle of the day, we left the store, sat out in the car, ate the sandwiches and apples with our juice, and then went back into the store!
We've had Rene's parents' car for the weekend so we could buy furniture (we also looked in the second-hand shop on Friday, but no luck there), but we have yet to buy any! So we need to return the car to his parents tomorrow, along with the silverware and utencils we don't need and the mismatched and chipped dishes we no longer need either!
But can you believe it's 2€ an HOUR to park your car here in Leiden?!?! I'm so thankful Rene's parents let us borrow the car, but I'm so anxious to give it back! It's eating a hole in our pockets!
Ok, so church tomorrow, and then Boxmeer (Rene's hometown), and then more work on the trying to organize the apartment and get things that will work for our slanty walls and weird ceiling beams!
More will come, especially regarding our honeymoon! I promise! :)
OH! And did you know Ikea has special parking spots for people with children? Yes! They have a drawing of two parents, a child, and a stroller on the ground, just like a handicap sign, but a family sign instead! Weird!
